Editors from London have been enjoying a press trip to for skincare. I’ve known about Cliveden House but I thought it was just a historic house managed by the and didn’t realize it’s also a hotel and spa.

Cliveden House is an Italianate manor house located about 45 minutes from London in Buckinghamshire, on the border with Berkshire, and sits along the Thames. It was built in 1851 in Palladian and Italian styles but was changed by the 1st Lord Astor, William Waldorf Astor, to look like an Italian palazzo after he purchased it in 1893. The dining room is lined with 18th-century Rococo boiseries bought at auction in Paris. The Great Hall boasts a portrait of Nancy, Lady Astor by John Singer Sargent.

“In 1942, the Astors gave Cliveden to the National Trust with the proviso that the family could continue to live in the house for as long as they wished. Should this cease, they expressed the wish that the house be used “for promoting friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and Canada and the other dominions.”

Cliveden was purchased in 1984 and renovated to become a hotel. A pool and spa were added in 1990. In addition to 37 guest rooms and suites, there is also four stand alone cottages on the extensive grounds which include a parterre, maze, gardens, woodlands, follies, and more.

I’m definitely adding to must visit list for my next trip to London.
